Coking capacity of coal produced by the Dębieńsko" Mine in Czerwionka since 1898, became the basis for erection of a cokery near the mining plant. The Mine was then owned by an industrial association operating under the name of Vereinigte Königs - und Laura - Hütten AG in Siemianowice. Construction of the Cokery buildings commenced in 1908 with construction of coal storage silos, battery of two 30 coking chamber "Otto - Hoffman" type coke-ovens with total production capacity of 350 Mg of coke per day. The Cokery started producing coke in 1913 and employed 160 people at that time.

Between the years 1924 - 1926 the coke oven batteries were modified and installation of larger chambers resulted in increased daily output of the plant.

Since the beginning of 1945, the Cokery and the Mine have been incorporated into Rybnickie Zjednoczenie Przemysłu Węglowego (Rybnik United Coal Processing Industries). An investment project concluded in 1957 resulted in construction of 2 coke -oven batteries with 2 x 28 "Otto 43" type coking chambers.

Another important year for the Plant was 1968, when Heavy Industry Ministry decided to merge the Cokery with 'Gliwice' Cokeries in Gliwice.

At that time 'Dębiensko' Cokery operated at its full capacity, using all its four coke-oven batteries and produced a record-breaking quantity of 510 thousand Mg per year. Unfortunately, in the end of year 1968 excessive chipping of heating walls occurred and

'Gliwice' Cokeries took over the 'Dębieńsko' plant with significant wear of all coke-oven batteries.

The Management decided then to build new batteries and modernise other process facilities and equipment. Batteries I and II, constructed in 1913, were scheduled for closing down and demolition. New coke-oven batteries started production in 1985, January 11, and were seen as conclusion of a major stage of the cokery modernisation project. The Plant could then be regarded as a modern cokery with a new group of charge system coke-oven batteries, new equipment and fixtures, never installed at the plant before.

Today, construction of Hival boiler house, fuelled with coke-oven gas and producing steam and electric power for the plant, has been concluded. Other major change includes computer assisted monitoring of nozzles and carbon products division. The system ensures that appropriate decisions concerning safe operation of the equipment and best adjustment of production process are made at any time.
