"Radlin" Cokery
was built in Radlin in 1911 - originally a division of 'Emma' Mine. The plant continued to operate as a division of the Mine for a long time and finally became an independent company in 1920, but retained its name - 'Emma Coal Mine Cokery'. In 1951 the plant, then a state owned company, changed its name to Zakład Koksochemiczny "Radlin".

In the year of construction, 1911 the plant was equipped with two Otto - Hoffman type, 45-chamber, chamotte coke oven batteries - I and II. The batteries used compacted coal and produced ca. 6 t of coke per one chamber, i.e. ca. 40 thousand tonnes per year for both batteries. Battery I was decommissioned in 1957 and battery II was dismantled in 1953. In 1913 battery III - Koppers type battery, chamotte with side fuelling, producing 7 t of coke per one chamber, decommissioned in 1966. Two years later, after start-up of battery III, another battery - battery IV was started up. This was a Collin type silica battery. Charge coal from 'Anna' Mine was transported by 5-6 km. Long cableway built in 1928, connecting the Mine and the Cokery. Two other batteries - battery V and battery VI were completed in 1928/29. These were Otto type silica batteries. In 1938 Radlin cokery contributed total quantity of 540 thousand tonnes of coke to the total output of 2,3 million tonnes of coke produced by all batteries operated in Poland. Batteries V and VI remained in operation until 1945. On the 1st of April 1945 the state officially took over the plant and commenced renovation and repair of batteries I, III and IV. Between the years 1952 - 53 modernisation of batteries II, V and VI was completed and new coke storage facility was built.

In 1996 the company built a new battery - PTU-57 type facility with 56 chambers, designed by Zabrze based 'Koksoprojekt' company. In the meantime the Company stopped operation of batteries I and II and prepared space required for construction of another PTU-57 battery, which went into operation in 1970. The old batteries were gradually phased out and in 1981 battery V was shut down.
At the end of the eighties and beginning of the nineties was a time of Kombinat activity related with another modernisation of the plant.

Construction and assembly of a sulphur removal system in 'Radlin' Cokery ensured elimination of ca. 80 - 90% of sulphur dioxide from coke oven batteries stacks.

In 1995 all water circulation systems within the plant were connected to the new biological wastewater treatment plant. Today 'Radlin' Cokery operates two PTU-57 type coke oven batteries and has one of the most effective systems of sulphur removal from coke-oven gas.
